  • Translation Seminar: Translating the Personal with Pedro Serrano

Translation Seminar: Translating the Personal: Edward Hirsch’s Gabriel. A Poem and the Rejection of Cultural Appropriation with Pedro Serrano

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Lilly Library, Slocum Room
Pedro Serrano

In this seminar, poet and translator Pedro Serrano will explore the tension between making a translated poem sing in the receiving culture and keeping to its highly contextualized meaning in the source. This tension is exacerbated when the poem in question is highly personal and when it affects the poet-translator as an intimate expression of an individual experience.
