Tenure and promotion are often accompanied by increased expectations for involvement in departmental and university activities as well as in one’s areas of expertise within a specific discipline. Additionally, criteria for promotion to full professor incorporate meaningful service contributions into the evaluation of one’s impact, both locally and professionally. This workshop explores the process of identifying meaningful service activities and connecting that work to overarching goals and planning. The conversation will include suggestions for ensuring that research productivity, and teaching and mentoring opportunities are enhanced and protected despite these increasing responsibilities.
